Bartlett Pear

Submitted by kabukiknight on Sat, 2007-09-22 23:53.
Snack Information:

Carbohydrates make up 98% of the energy provided by a pear.

Carbohydrates are helpful in weight reduction diets, since they contain half as many calories as fat.

Pears provide a natural quick source of energy, due largely to high amounts of two monosaccharides: fructose and glucose.

A pear is a nutrient dense food, providing more nutrients per calorie, than calories per nutrient.

A pear provides 30% more potassium than an apple. Potassium is necessary for maintaining heartbeat, muscle contraction, nerve transmission, and carbohydrate and protein metabolism.

One medium pear provides 11% of the RDA for ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

A pear, with skin, weighing 166 grams, provides 2.32 grams of crude fiber, and 4.5 grams of dietary fiber, of which 41% is pectin.

Coca Cola and Nestle - Enviga - Green Tea

Can a drink actually help you *lose* calories?! It seems it can with Enviga -- a new energy drink from Coca Cola and Nestle.

Launched under the Coke brand, Enviga is a carbonated green tea beverage that claims to burn as many as 100 calories a day just from drinking three 12-ounce cans. The negative calorie effect (thermogenesis) of Enviga happens a green tea extract (epigallocatechin gallate) speeds up metabolism when combined with caffeine.

Reese's Pieces

Reese's Pieces

I haven't seen Reese's Pieces on store shelves since the early 1990s. I was very surprised to find them available at Costco. This candy reminds me a lot of M&Ms but its crunchy shell is the only thing they have in common.Reese's Pieces are a combination of chocolate and peanut butter, but it tastes like a very sweet creamy peanut butter. If you loves Reese's Peanut Butter Cups then this is a must try.
